Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany has said that he is really buzzing after scoring the winner in the Manchester derby on Monday night. Manchester City were coming into the Manchester derby knowing that anything other than a win would give the advantage to Manchester United.
Manchester United were having a three-point advantage of the table, but a Manchester City win would put them level on points. However, City would lead the table due to the significantly better goal difference. United started the match brightly, but City came into their own after Mancini made subtle changes to the tactics.
Vincent Kompany scored the vital first goal in the match in the injury time of first half. It was probably the best time to score for Manchester City. In the second half, United rarely posed a threat for City. Finally, City defeated United for the second time in the league this season. More than the double, Vincent Kompany said that it was a result that showed the character and spirit. City were eight points behind Manchester United at one stage in the season. City will be facing the likes of Newcastle United and QPR in the remaining two matches of the season, while United will have Swansea and Sunderland.
Despite the victory, Vincent Kompany said that the title race is not over yet. “[I am] absolutely buzzing. We have been waiting for this moment and it’s far from over, we know that. Just to give our fans two wins over United this season, we have have to finish it off in the the next two games. This victory goes out to the whole team. The performance was great today. There were so many great performances and I am happy for them,” the 25-year-old said in his interview to Sky Sports News after the match.
